The honest range
Bespoke suit pricing spans a wide band. Entry-level bespoke from a strong independent maker typically starts in the low thousands; the grand houses of Savile Row and their equivalents command several times that. The figure reflects hours of skilled handwork, the quality of the cloth, and the reputation of the house.
Made-to-measure sits below full bespoke, because it adjusts a pre-existing pattern rather than cutting one from scratch. If a quoted price sounds unusually low for genuine bespoke, it is worth asking exactly what the process involves.
What drives the price
Three things move the number most: the cloth, the amount of handwork, and the house. Cloth from the finest English and Italian mills costs more per metre and behaves better. Hand-padded canvas, hand-finished details, and additional fittings all add hours. And an established name carries a premium for its cutting expertise and its record.
Think in cost per wear
The headline figure is the wrong way to judge a bespoke suit. A well-made garment worn regularly for a decade, then maintained and occasionally altered, often costs less over its life than a series of cheaper suits replaced every few seasons. Judge the price against how much you will wear it and how long it will last.
Frequently asked
Is a bespoke suit worth the cost?
For someone who wears suits regularly, values fit, and wants a garment that lasts and improves with wear, yes. Judged as cost per wear over a decade, a well-made bespoke suit is often more economical than repeatedly replacing cheaper ones.
Why is bespoke more expensive than made-to-measure?
Bespoke cuts an individual pattern from scratch and refines it across multiple fittings, which takes far more skilled hours than adjusting a pre-existing block, as made-to-measure does.
